Odessa, TX – Thanks to his consistent play all season long, defenseman Nick Wilson has been named to the South All-Rookie Team Monday.
“Last year, things didn’t go my way in Austin, but once I came to Odessa, everything started clicking,” starts Wilson. “I was given more opportunities to show what I could bring thanks to [Greg] Gatto, and it was just a great atmosphere all around, especially the guys. I’m thankful to be part of Odessa and excited for this coming season”.
The native of DeWitt, MI. wasn’t the biggest offensive threat on the team, but he always made sure his presence was known. Of his three goals this season, two of them ended up being game-winning goals. Wilson also posted 15 more assists on top of it for 18 total points on the year.
Despite not putting up huge numbers, Wilson was a physical threat on the ice, delivering more body blows than anyone else on the team. Wilson’s sense of brotherhood and protection would come out at anytime, resulting in a multiple fights won, including a few quick knockdowns.
“Wilson made great strides throughout the season, and it’s nice to see him get rewarded for his hard work,” says head coach Gatto.
Wilson’s honor marks the fifth time a Jackalopes’ player has been named to the South All-Rookie Team, joining players like Connor Hellebuyck (goalie, 2011-12), Christian (defenseman, 2014-15) and Kenny Hausinger (forward, 2014-15), and Cooper Zech (defenseman, 2015-16).
