Jacks drop eighth straight as ‘Cats complete weekend sweep.

WICHITA FALLS, TX – In their final road game for nearly a month, the Odessa Jackalopes fell Saturday to the Wichita Falls Wildcats by a final score of 5-1 at Kay Yeager Coliseum. With the loss, the Jacks’ eighth consecutive defeat, Odessa fell to 6-38-3 overall this season and with 15 points, remains alone in sixth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings.

After Kyle Bauman staked the Wildcats to a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, Jake Townsend doubled the ‘Cats lead in the final minute of the first on a flukey, caroming goal that launched off the top of the end boards, high into the air and eventually deflected off the back of Odessa goaltender Erick Majerle and trickled over the ‘Lopes goal line.

In the second period, Odessa responded with their lone goal of the game, Matt Volonnino’s tenth tally of the season, at 6:54 on a well-executed curl out of the left corner, assisted by Mike Mezzano and Corey Hoffman to make it 2-1. Wichita Falls winger Conor O’Neil pushed the Wildcats’ lead to 4-1 minutes later and in the third, a Nick Farmer power-play tally in the frame’s opening minute gave way to a Tyler Ledford goal at 16:01 that sealed the Jacks fate, and the final score, at 5-1 Wichita Falls.

In his first appearance since a season-best 40-save performance in a 4-2 loss in Corpus Christi on February 8th, Majerle turned in a sturdy performance Saturday, stopping 36 of the 41 shots he faced in defeat.

Next up for the Jacks, it’s the first game of a season-long nine game homestand beginning Friday with the first of a two-game series vs. the Amarillo Bulls at Ector County Coliseum in Odessa.
