Two goal lead not enough as Jacks fall to Brahmas 4-2

ODESSA, TX —  The Jackalopes had a two-goal lead after the first period. History was on their side as more often then not they closed out those games and Lone Star had not been able to come back from first period deficits very often.

But history was defied on Friday night as the Jackalopes (12-18-0-1) fell to the Lone Star Brahmas (13-14-2-4) 4-2 at the Ector County Coliseum.

Jared Christy scored first for the Jackalopes after he forced a turnover in tight and scored close-in on Brahma goaltender Herrison Feeney. With the goal Christy extended his point streak to seven straight games.

This goal was fallowed up a few minutes later by a goal by Michael Sacco. After a point shot by Kellen Tharaldson was saved by Feeney, the rebound wound up on Sacco’s stick in the slot. Sacco fired the rebound into the back of the net to extend the Jacks lead to 2-0.

In the second period Lone Star trimmed the Jacks lead to 2-1 on their first of two power-play goals.

With a 2-1 lead going into the third period the Jacks faced a tremendous onslaught by the Brahmas.

The Jacks surrendered two more goals (with one on the power play) to flip the script and put Odessa down 3-2.

The Jackalopes had several good chances to score late and tie the game but they were unable to capitalize. Instead a long empty-net goal by Kimball Johnson sealed the game with just over a minuet to play.

The Odessa Jackalopes will look to force a weekend split and close out 2018 on a high note tomorrow night against the Brahmas. Face-off is set for 7:11 pm.
