Odessa, TX – Despite the 1,300 teddy bears that flooded the ice, the Odessa Jackalopes (16-11-2-1) fell to the Corpus Christi IceRays (13-13-2-3) on Saturday night 7-3. The loss snapped the Jackalopes eight-game point streak heading into the holiday break.
The IceRays kicked it off halfway through the first period as Angus Scott scooped a scored after Alex Camarre’s initial save. Brendan Miller would add one later on a backhanded flip to beat Camarre’s blocker-side for the two-goal.
Odessa would get one back with only 43 seconds remaining in the opening frame as the Texan Connection came to play. Ricky Carballo broke into the attacking zone and centered a pass to Eric Huss who made a nifty move to beat Chad Veltri for the goal. The first goal of the night brought all the teddy bears for the Jacks 4th annual Teddy Bear Toss.
Corpus Christi would open the second frame up with two goals in the first five and a half minutes as Brendan Miller tallied his second of the night while Matt Novo scored his first since the NAHL Showcase back in September.
The Jackalopes would fight back yet again late in the frame as Ricky Carballo tips a shot from James Crossman at the point past Veltri for his 8th tally of the year.
Odessa would get back within one quickly into the third period as a beautiful passing display ends with Peyton Frantti finding Evan Somoza for a back door tip in, bringing the game within one.
The game would spiral out of control after Larry Jungwirth knocks in a puck with a high stick that was allotted, followed up by two more IceRays goals as Corpus Christi fishes off Odessa 7-3.
Alex Camarre made 30 saves in the loss while Chad Veltri turned back 36 shots for his 11th win of the season.
The Jackalopes take a week off, but return to action for the final home game of 2017 on December 29th as they take on the Amarillo Bulls at the Jack Shack
