SPRINGFIELD GIVES JACKS THE BLUES IN 4-0 DEFEAT
Kuroiwa makes 27 saves in Jacks fifth straight loss.
BLAINE, MINNESOTA – After a 4-1 loss yesterday to the Minnesota Wilderness, the Odessa Jackalopes were looking to build upon a third period in which Drew Gannon scored and the Jacks managed to keep the puck out of their goal. Unfortunately for them, the North Division’s Springfield Jr. Blues had other plans.
The Blues scored the game’s first goal at 3:18 of the first after Davis DeKorte won a faceoff back to Kyle Shreve who immediately fired the puck over the right shoulder of Yoshi Kuroiwa. The Jacks came on after that, but could not find a way to beat Blues goalie Sandro Aeschlimann (AY-shull-man). The Jacks outshot Springfield, 13-7 in the first but it was the Blues who took a 1-0 lead after one period.
The Jacks were unable to build on their solid first period as Springfield controlled play throughout most of the second period. The Blues finally cashed in at 19:19 of the second when Michael Mylchreest scored on a wrist shot from the blue line. Kuroiwa’s sight seemed to be impaired by a player screening him in front of his net. The Blues lead 2-0 after two.
The second goal for the Blues seemed to be the back-breaker as the Jacks were only able to muster four shots on goal in the third period. The Blues took a three goal lead at 10:50 when Trevor Stone found a spot over the left shoulder of Kuroiwa. Michael Mylchreest added his second goal of the game in the final minute of the third to give the Blues a 4-0 win in day two of the NAHL Showcase.
The Jacks take on the Central Division’s Brookings Blizzard tomorrow morning at 10:15am. You can hear the game live on Classic Rock 102 and watch live on FASTHockey.
