Odessa, TX (June 29, 2016) – The Odessa Jackalopes, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are excited to announce that Jacks alumni Hampus Sjodahl has been invited to the Dallas Stars Developmental Camp at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter on July 5-9. Sjodahl, who was named the NAHL South Division MVP and League All-Star this past season, is set to begin his college hockey career this fall at Bemidji State (WCHA, D1).
The 20-year-old (6-2, 198) wasn’t eligible for last Friday’s NHL Draft in Buffalo due to his age but he certainly would have heard his named called had he been born three months and three days later (BD: 9/27/95) . In his second year with the Jacks this past season, Sjodahl turned in the best season in franchise history. The Stockholm, Sweden native had 69 points (35 goals, 34 assists), which was third in the league, a plus-16 rating, 34 PIM, 11 power play goals, 3 shorthanded goals, and three game winning goals. The prototypical center-man could have already intrigued NHL scouts drooling in a year or two after some NCAA seasoning, but the camp will provide a measuring stick for the talented forward.
Sjodahl is one of 30 players invited to the four-day camp, and one of just two players from the NAHL (Jeff Baum, Wichita Falls Wildcats). The dev. camp is comprised of 15 forwards, 10 defenseman and five goaltenders, plus the Stars six draft selections.
