ODESSA, TX (APRIL 22) – Austin Albrecht scored a hat trick and Austin Beaulieu potted a pair en route to a 6-3 Wichita Falls Wildcats (3-0) win and a series sweep over the Jackalopes (0-3) at Ector County Coliseum Friday night.
Wichita Falls continued their offensive dominance by potting three 1st period goals Friday. Beaulieu (1) got the Cats started by potting a perfect backdoor feed by Rourke Russell at 8:31. Austin Albrecht extended his clubs lead at 14:01 when jammed home a loose puck in the crease after Jon Flakne had denied the first shot by Jon Lazarus from the slot. Adam Goodsir completed the three goal Cats’ first by scoring his first of the playoff’s after collecting a loose puck the crease on the far post at 18:36.
The Cats extended their lead just one minute and 52 seconds into the 2nd when Beaulieu (2) beat Flakne on a high-slot snip. Hampus Sjodahl (1) snapped Odessa’s six period goalless drought by banging home Odessa first of the game at 12:52. Two minutes later Albrecht (2) extended the Cats lead back up to four at 14:55.
In the final frame, Odessa made it a game by scoring its first power play goal of the series at 8:20 off the stick of Gray Marr (1) on a direction. 29 seconds later Jake Levin (1) fired a slap shot past Kapelmaster to make it 5-3, again on the power play. The Jacks comeback bid stalled when Albrecht (3) completed his hat trick with an empty netter at 18:45.
Jon Flakne took the loss (0-1) allowing 5 goals on 38 shots while Justin Kapelmaster (3-0) earned the win stopping 30 shots.
