Odessa, Texas (DEC 3, 2015) – The Odessa Jackalopes scored twice in the first but never found their offense after the opening framing, falling to the Corpus Christi IceRays, 3-2, Thursday night at Ector County Coliseum.
Odessa (10-9-2) broke through first when Jon Russell snuck a shot past a sprawled out Dryden McKay at 6:46 of the opening period. Corpus Christi (7-12-3) responded with back-to-back goals from Mason Krueger (3) at 10:43 and Nathan Bryer (2) at 13:20. Hampus Sjodahl (11) tied the game at 15:42 top-shelf short side snipe.
In the second, Colton Meekhof (2) scored the lone goal of the period when he snuck a long-distance wrist shot past Dean Shatzer from just inside the blue line at 2:24 to give Corpus a 3-2 lead.
In the final frame, Odessa desperately tried to tie the game with a 6-on-4 with 1:09 remaining but weren’t able to tie the game, falling 3-2. Neither team broke through on the power play in game, with Odessa going 0-for-3 and Corpus 0-for-4.
Dean Shatzer took the hard-luck loss, making 26 saves on 29 shots. On the other end, Dryden McKay stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced.
