ODESSA, TX — Aaron Randazzo made 20 saves and held the line in the Jackalopes’ first home victory of the 2019-20 season. The Jackalopes (5-4-1-1) defeated New Mexico (0-11-0-1) 2-0 at the Ector County Coliseum on Friday.
The Jacks started off strong with Matt Hutton scoring off a shot in front. He beat goaltender Josh Langford low and put Odessa up 1-0 on his first goal of the year.
This was followed up on the power play by Connor Scahill, who let go a hard one-timer that beat Langford low and on the ice. It was the second power-play goal Scahill had scored against the Ice Wolves. Scored on a power-play strike when the Jacks played the Wolves in Albuquerque back in September.
In the second and third periods there was a lot of hitting and a lot of shots on net. Aaron Randazzo was tested, but the St. Cloud State commit was able to stand tall and was square to every challenge New Mexico sent his way.
By the final horn, the Jackalopes emerged victorious 2-0 in their first home victory of the season. The Jackalopes capitalized on 2 of their 22 shots on net. New Mexico failed to score despite 20 shots.
This win marks the second straight for Odessa, dating back to last Saturday and their third straight against New Mexico. The Jackalopes will look for the series sweep on Saturday night at 7:15 pm. Fans who wear pink in honor of Brest Cancer Awareness Month will receive free admission into the game.
