OLGUIN SCORES IN 8-1 LOSS TO ‘RAYS
Winless streak hits 16 in second-to-last home game of the season.
ODESSA, TX – In their penultimate home game of the 2012-13 regular season, the Odessa Jackalopes fell Tuesday by a final score of 8-1 to the Corpus Christi IceRays at Ector County Coliseum. With the loss, the Jacks’ franchise-record 16th consecutive game without a win, Odessa fell to 6-46-3 overall this season and with 15 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings.
Odessa leading scorer Anthony Olguin put the Jacks on top early on Tuesday, when he rifled his team-leading 12th of the season over Corpus Christi goaltender Ben Myers’ left shoulder at 9:11 of the first, assisted by Matthieu Audet and Dylan Campbell, to put Odessa up 1-0.
After Charles Baldwin potted the first of his two shorthanded goals midway through the opening period, Corpus Christi rattled off seven more unanswered tallies the rest of the way to skate away with a lopsided, 8-1 win. Despite allowing multiple man-down scores to the ‘Rays, the Jackalopes’ penalty-kill was tremendous Tuesday, stopping Corpus Christi cold on all four power-play chances the IceRays enjoyed.
Just two days removed from an impressive, 37-save performance in Odessa’s 4-3 loss to Topeka on Saturday, Jackalopes netminder Nick Deery struggled down the stretch on Tuesday, as the Lacrosse, Wisconsin native stopped just 29 of the 37 pucks he faced in the blowout loss.
Next up for the Jacks, it’s the final game of the Jackalopes’ 2012-13 regular season home schedule, as the Jacks square off for the tenth time this season vs. the Corpus Christi IceRays with the opening faceoff set for Wednesday at 7:05 pm at Ector County Coliseum.
In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season ticket packages for the Jacks’ sophomore campaign are available now starting at just $179.
