Odessa, TX – Kieran Durgan tallied his fourth goal of the season 12:02 into the second period in what proved to be the game-deciding goal to help the Shreveport Mudbugs (12-4-0-1) best the hometown Odessa Jackalopes (8-7-1-1) 5-3 at the Ector County Coliseum on Friday night. Durgan netted two goals in the game to help the Mudbugs onto victory.
Nick Wilson, Zach Heintz, and Blake Bride all netted their third goals of the season in the first period to take the lead before the Jacks lost it in the second and couldn’t overcome the final deficit. Brett Epp (4-5-1-0) turned back 27 shots in the loss.
The Mudbugs found the score sheet first at the 8:20 mark of the first period, when Cameron Cook netted his 6th of the season on a 4-on-4 rebound to beat Epp.
The Jacks would fight back as Nick Wilson tied the game just over a minute later on a power play goal for his third tally of the year. Zach Heintz gave the Jacks the lead with only 2:43 remaining in the first period as he picked and deked his way into a breakaway to beat the Mudbugs’ James Durham for the 2-1 lead.
Shreveport’s resilience paid off in the second when Jake Transit netted his third goal of the season only 30 seconds in to tie it up before Kieran Durgan’s 3rd of the season redirected through the five-hole of Epp for the 3-2 lead.
Early on in the third, Blake Bride sniped his third goal of the season past Durham to tie the game at 3-3 before another Durgan goal (his 4th) gave the Mudbugs yet another lead, but this time, for good. A late empty netter by Cole Quisenberry sealed the deal for Shreveport.
Durham stopped 28 shots during his first victory in his last three attempts.
The Jackalopes and Mudbugs return to the ice tomorrow night to finish off the weekend at 7:11 pm inside the Ector County Coliseum.
