Amarillo, TX – Petr Miko netted the game-winning goal for the Odessa Jackalopes (18-11-2-1) with only 3:01 remaining in regulation to life Odessa to a 3-2 victory over the Amarillo Bulls (11-12-4-3) on Saturday night. The win was Odessa’s first regulation win against Amarillo this season
Amarillo kicked the scoring off with 5:44 remaining in the first period as Brendan Michaelian snuck a shot in under the crossbar through traffic past Odessa’s Brett Epp.
The Jacks would get one back only 47 seconds later when Eric Huss will a puck away from Amarillo, finding Matt Brown. Brown took a wristshot through heavy traffic that beat Jason Grande through a sliver for a short-side goal to tie it up at 1.
Amarillo would head to their fourth power play of the night halfway through the second period after an interference call, leading Gleb Murtazin to give Amarillo a 2-1 lead as he beat Epp through the five-hole.
The Jackalopes began the third period shorthanded, but after killing it off, Evan Somoza performed his magic again, netting his 13th tally of the season to tie the game at 2. Peyton Frantti swatted a Ricky Carballo pass out of the air before feeding Somoza for the tie game 1:45 into the 3rd period.
The game winner from Miko came late in the third as Zach Heintz fed a beautiful pass in the slot before the Czech Sniper lifted one past Grande for his 8th goal of the year, and the eventual winning goal.
Brett Epp stood on his head, making 37 saves in the win while Grande’s 22 wasn’t enough.
