Alex Alger and Razmuz Waxin-Engback have shiny three-point nights; Creel makes 22 saves in win

ODESSA, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes were looking to avenge a 6-2 defeat at the hands on the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday night, with a win in the last game before the three-week rodeo road trip on Saturday. Jackalopes Head Coach Greg Gatto called upon veteran goaltender Tanner Creel to make his fourth consecuative start for the Jacks. He was opposed by Union College commit Jake Kupsky.

The Jacks got the scoring started at 12:54 of the first period. Brahmas forward Cody Wickline given a 4:00 penalty and a game misconduct for a check for behind. Andrew McLean took a neat pass from Kenny Hausinger and ripped a slap shot over the left shoulder of Kupsky. The Jacks took a 1-0 lead to the locker room.

The Jackalopes took a two-goal lead in the first minute of the second when Razmuz Waxin-Engback buried a one-timer between the legs of Kupsky from the left circle. Alex Alger and newcomer Ed Hirka picked up the assist. For Hirka, it was his first career point in his junior hockey career. The Jackalopes shut down the league’s fourth rated offense through two periods and took a 2-0 lead into the third.

Jacks captain Chad Guderian was whistled for a boarding penalty just thirty-one seconds into period number third. The league’s leading scorer, Sebastian Vidmar put the Brahmas on the board with his twentieth goal of the season on the power play at 1:27 to cut the Jacks lead to one. While killing another penalty, Alex Alger found himself in alone on a breakaway and beat Kupsky over the glove hand to put the Jacks out front by two again. After a hard-working shift, Alex Alger was able to find Waxin-Engback alone in front of Kupsky, to give the Swedish forward his second tally of the night. The Brahmas Vanderbeck would score a goal late, but the Jackalopes knocked off the Brahmas for the first time this season by a final score of 4-2 in front of 1,275 fans at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa.

The Jackalopes next destination is North Richland Hills, TX to take on the Lone Star Brahmas at the NYTEX Centre. Voice of the Jacks, Joey Battaino has the call on Friday, January 2nd and Saturday, January 3rd at 7:15 CST on FASTHockey.com and Classic Rock 102.1 FM KFZX.
