Late Power Play Downs Jacks

Odessa, TX – A power play goal in the third period lifted the Lone Star Brahmas (29-12-5-4) past the Odessa Jackalopes (27-18-3-2) for the second straight night by a score of 4-3. While it’s the last time they faceoff during the regular season, they may see each other come playoff time.

The Jackalopes built themselves an early lead kicking the game off with the first goal only 6:10 into the first period. Viktor Johansson worked down the left circle as he fed a shot between the circles. While there were no Jackalopes in the area, Lone Star’s Trevor Zenas had a bad bounce off his stick and in past his own goaltender, Mitchell Gibson.

After coincidental penalties at the 8:31 mark, the Jacks and Brahmas played four-on-four action. Off a feed from Johansson, Nick Wilson had tons of time and open space before he unwound one past Gibson for the two-goal lead, his fifth tally of the season.

The Brahmas would get one back from Aidan Spellacy who tipped one past Brett Epp while tied up in the crease.

Lone Star was in the attacking zone for the majority of the first five minutes of the second period, but all the Jacks needed was one chance. On the first shot of the second for Odessa, Eric Huss buries one short-side past Gibson to regain the two-goal lead.

Spellacy picked up his second of the game on a defensive breakdown, followed up by a power play one-timer from Ture Linden to tie the game at three after the first forty minutes.

Ricky Carballo was sent to the box for two minutes for after knocking down a Brahmas from behind, which led to the game-winning goal from Steven Ipri.

Brett Epp made 12 saves in the contest while Gibson earned his second win with 25 saves. Jackalopes are back at it tomorrow night for a 5:11 pm start against the Amarillo Bulls.
