JACKS WRAP UP HOME SLATE WITH “SHRINERS WEEKEND”
Jackalopes’ signature event returns to benefit Shriners Childrens Hospitals.
ODESSA, TX– As the Odessa Jackalopes fight for their playoff lives on the ice, at a Monday news conference at Ector County Coliseum, Jacks General Manager Joe Clark announced the team will cap off its 2011-12 regular season home schedule March 15-17 with one of the team’s signature, annual events, “Shriners Weekend”.
Odessa’s critical, three-game series against the New Mexico Mustangs and Wichita Falls Wildcats will have added meaning as members of the Odessa Shrine Club descend on the Jack Shack to help raise money for Shriners Childrens Hospitals.
“Shriners Weekend is always one of the most fun times of the year,” said Clark, “the community always responds so well when the Shriners come to town and hopefully our team will rise to the occasion as well.” As part of the festivities, the Jackalopes will sport specialty “Shriners” jerseys all weekend long, Clark announced and during Friday’s game against Wichita Falls, the Jacks will give away a four-wheeler courtesy of Family Powersports.
After the game on Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to bid on the Jackalopes’ game-worn specialty jerseys in the final postgame jersey auction of the season and during each of the weekend’s games, fans can bid via silent auction on “Shriners” jerseys as well with a portion of all proceeds going directly to Shriners Childrens Hospitals.
In addition to the weekend festivities on the ice, the Shriners will also host a brisket, ribs and Casi sanctioned chili cookoff prior to the Jacks’ final home game of their 15th Anniversary season on Saturday in the Jackalopes’ picnic area, just off the ice surface at Ector County Coliseum. For more information on the Shriners’ “Maverick” cookoff, contact Rick Coe at 432-413-9304.
With just eight games remaining in their regular-season schedule, at 22-25-5 overall, the Jackalopes, winners of five of their past six games and a season-high three games in a row, remain alone in fifth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings, just six points behind the Corpus Christi IceRays for the South Division’s fourth and final playoff spot.
Following “Shriners Weekend”, the Jackalopes will end their inaugural NAHL season with a five game road trip to Wichita Falls, Amarillo and Topeka, Kansas.
The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or by visiting the Jacks online at www.jackalopes.org.
