SHREVEPORT, LA — The Odessa Jackalopes skated to their second straight victory after a 2-1 regulation win against the Shreveport Mudbugs.
Odessa scored both of their goals in the first period. Just over two minutes in Joseph Winkelmann deflected in a point shot from Patrick Dawson to put the Jackalopes up 1-0.
Towards the end of the period the Jackalopes embarked on their second power play of the game. Great puck movement for the Jacks resulted in a goal. Oscar Tyskhagen sent a cross-ice pass to Carl Skarstom to the left hand boards. Skarstom decided against shooting and sent a quick pass to Jan Blasko who was standing on top of the crease.
Blasko deflected the pass into a wide open net to earn his third goal of the season to put Odessa up 2-0.
In the second period the Mudbugs came on strong offensively. They trimmed the Jackalope lead to 2-1 early in the second but Alex Camarre gave away nothing more. Shreveport had two power plays and 15 shots on net in the second but could not find the equalizer.
Vaclav Zidek had a penalty shot in the late stages of the second but failed to score on his attempt.
In the third period the play was more even as the Jackalopes gave as good as they got. Again the Odessa defense and Camarre stood tall as the Bugs tried and failed to force overtime.
With the win the Odessa Jackalopes improve to 17-23-1-1 on the year and seven points out of a playoff spot.
The Jackalopes will look to continue their winning streak on Saturday as they finish up their series against the Mudbugs, face-off is set for 7:11 pm.
