Jacks win Friday, Fall Saturday vs. LSB

Odessa, TX On Friday night, the Odessa Jackalopes ended a nine game skid by beating the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-2, in the first matchup of the season between the South Division rivals. Eric Carreras netted his 12th goal of the season and his first against his former team while Gunner Rivers made 27 saves to earn his seventh win of the year and his first against his former club. On Saturday, Odessa took an early lead at 1:58 of the first on a redeflect by Jon Russell (3), but the Brahmas controlled the remainder of the games and put the game away with three in the second and two in the third to earn a 6-2 win and a series split. The Jacks and Brahmas won’t have to wait to renew their I-20 rivalry. The two teams will play a pair of games in Lone Star on Friday and Saturday night.

New Additions Add Depth and Size

With Dakoda Menslage (6’2”, 225 lb.) off of injured reserve, and Brennen Miller (6’3”, 210) and Pierce Pluemer (6’4”, 193 lb.) making their Odessa debuts within the last week, the Jacks went from having only a few players over 6’0” to having multiple including a line of Pluemer, Miller and Brandon Tucker who are all over 6’2”. Since his return from injury, Menslage, 20, has appeared in four games this season with Odessa accumulating one point (0 goals, 1 assist) and a -6 rating. Miller, 20, a Keller, TX, native was acquired by the Jacks for future considerations from the Melleville Millionairs (SJHL) in early December and made his Jacks debut Friday night after recovering from a partially torn ACL early in the season. In two games, Miller has zero points and a -3 rating. Pluemer, 19, an Air Force Academy commit (NCAA, D1), was a Jacks tender and joined Odessa after being released by the Sioux City Musketeers (USHL). In four games, Pluemer has zero points and a -3 rating.

Hellebuyck continues to soar with the Jets

Former Jackalope’ goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has made the most of his resent call up to the NHL in late November. The Commerce, MI, native is 9-4-1 with the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) in 13 starts, with a .935 save percentage and 1.93 goals-against average, including a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night where he made 43 saves in route to the victory. Hellebuyck recorded his first NHL shutout of his career against the Penguins on Dec. 27, 2015. In the Jacks inaugural junior season in 2011, Hellebuyck backstopped Odessa to its lone postseason birth, posting a 26-21-8 record with a .930 save percentage and a 2.49 goals-against average.
