JACKS TAKE TIME FOR ODESSA YOUTH

Slap Jack, players reach out to local kids at the Booth Head Start Center.

ODESSA, TX– As part of their continued community outreach efforts, Odessa Jackalopes players and team mascot Slap Jack visited Booth Head Start Center in Odessa Thursday afternoon and spoke to youngsters about the importance of nutrition and maintaining an active lifestyle through sports.

Jackalopes’ goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, along with his teammate and older brother Chris Hellebuyck and Jacks’ defensemen Tyler Minx and Bryan Mitchell, spent time with over 100 three and four year-olds at Booth Thursday and discussed how sports have affected their lives and made them the people they are today. The Odessa players also touched on how eating healthy foods and exercising regularly makes everyday life more fun.

Following the presentation, students at Booth each received a souvenir pencil from the Jacks and got a chance to fool around with Slap Jack and the players on the playground.

After a brief one-game road trip to Amarillo, the Jackalopes return to the ice Friday at Ector County Coliseum for the first of a two-game weekend series against NAHL West Division foes, the Fresno Monsters.

In celebration of their 15th Anniversary season, the Jacks are turning back the clock with “Throwback Weekend” at the Jack Shack. The Jackalopes will be wearing old-school uniforms all weekend that will be auctioned off to fans following Saturday’s game. Also, former Jacks star goaltender Mike Gorman will be honored during the first intermission Saturday, when the seven-year Odessa veteran will be inducted into the Jackalopes Hall of Fame. Make sure to show up early on Friday, as the first thousand fans through the gates will receive a Jackalopes soft-side lunchbox, sponsored by Eighth Street Animal Hospital.

The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League.  Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or by visiting the Jacks online at www.jackalopes.org.

Be sure to follow the Jackalopes on Twitter @LetsGoJacks all season long and don’t forget to ‘Like’ the official “Odessa Jackalopes” fan page on Facebook.
