JACKS STUNG BY ICERAYS, 3-0

Turnovers doom Odessa in third game of season-long road trip.

 

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX– In their second consecutive game against the Corpus Christi IceRays, the Odessa Jackalopes never broke through offensively on Friday night, falling to the ‘Rays by a score of 3-0 at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi. With the loss, the Jackalopes fell to 12-17-5 on the season and with 29 points, remain alone in fifth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings, seven points behind the IceRays for the South Division’s fourth and final playoff spot.

The Jacks and Rays played to a scoreless first period for the second straight night before Corpus Christi winger Beau Walker broke the ice with his fourth goal of the season, a power-play tally at 10:53 of the middle frame, assisted by AJ Jarosz, that staked Corpus Christi to a 1-0 lead. The IceRays made it 2-0 early in the third period when Zachary Lindsay took advantage of a Jackalopes’ turnover and potted an unassisted goal. Then at 14:17 of the final frame, Lindsay struck again, notching his second of the game and fourth of the season to lift Corpus Christi to a 3-0 victory.

IceRays netminder Anthony Stolarz stopped all 40 shots he faced and Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves for Odessa in his 20th consecutive start. Saturday marked just the sixth time this season that the Jackalopes were held scoreless in a regular season game.

Next up for the Jacks, it’s the fourth of seven consecutive road games, a 7:30 pm clash with the Texas Tornado at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco on Saturday night in the final meeting between Odessa and Texas in their regular-season series.
