JACKS SCRAP TO THE END IN 4-1 DEFEAT

Minx pots lone Odessa goal in tenth consecutive loss.

ODESSA, TX– In the finale of a two-game weekend series, the Odessa Jackalopes hung tough in a gritty and contentious game, but ultimately succumbed to the Amarillo Bulls 4-1 Saturday at Ector County Coliseum. With the loss, Odessa’s tenth in a row, the Jacks fell to 4-20-2 overall this season and with ten points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings.

For the second consecutive night, Amarillo sprang out to a 3-0 lead, courtesy of a pair of first period goals from Garret Peterson and a Carter Penzien tally that came just 57 seconds into the middle frame. Penzien’s goal signaled the end of the night for Odessa’s starting goaltender Blake Wojtala, as Phil Heinle took over in the Jacks cage, stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced the rest of the way.

The only Jackalopes goal on Saturday came courtesy of Odessa captain Tyler Minx, who wired his third score of the season through traffic from the left point at 4:19 of the third on feeds from Ryan Doucet and Josh Racek. Conor Frey sealed the deal for Amarillo at 17:59 of the final period, when the Bulls defenseman one-timed a TJ Sarcona pass to the low stick side of Heinle to establish Amarillo’s 4-1 margin of victory.

Next up for the Jacks, it’s a weekend road trip to Frisco, Texas for a pair of tilts with the Texas Tornado on Friday and Saturday night.

In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League.
