JACKS POUR IT ON IN 9-2 ROUT OF WICHITA FALLS
Chad Guderian’s hat trick led the way in Jacks biggest offensive outpouring of the season
WICHITA FALLS, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes came into play Friday night against the Wichita Falls Wildcats winless in their first four matchups this season. The Jacks were outscored in those games, 16-5 but coming off of a win last week against the first-place Amarillo Bulls, the Jacks had some momentum coming into the Kay Yeager Coliseum.
The Jacks got on the board early in the first when Chad Guderian scored on the power play at 1:59. Guderian took a pass from Mathieu Briand and fired a one-timer passed Wildcats goalie Chase Murone. The Jacks had trouble mustering up any more offense in the first and Sam Piazza tied the game at 17:44. The Wildcats came on in the final 10 minutes and outshot the Jacks 14-4 in the first. The two teams were tied at one at the end of the first period.
The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead at 3:01 of the second period when Nick Farmer scored on a rebound off of Eric Hancock. The Wildcats would only enjoy the lead for 1:23. Matt Beranek knotted the game at two on a drive to the net at 4:23 for his 2nd goal of the season. Chad Guderian scored his 2nd power play goal of the game at 8:10 to give the Jacks a 3-2 lead. Just 56 seconds later, Drew McLean scored his first career junior on a rebound after Jake Kreutzer’s shot bounced off the chest of Chase Munroe. Munroe was pulled in favor of David Zevnik at that point. The Jacks continued to pour it on in the after that. Chris Taff scored his 2nd goal of the season on a point shot that was blocked by Mitchell Mueller that he then accidently threw into his own net. The Jacks added their fifth goal of the period just 27 seconds later when Mathieu Briand scored his 9th goal of the season. The Jacks lead 6-2 after two periods.
In the third, the Jacks built on their lead at 3:32 when Lukas Laub found Alex Alger in the slot to end his 10-game goalless drought. At 10:27, Chad Guderian finished his hat trick on a breakaway beating Zevnik over his shoulder. The Jacks popped in their 9th of the game at 19:17 when David Zevnik couldn’t find the puck in the crease and Lukas Laub deposited his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
The Jacks nine goals was the most they had scored this season and the most goals they scored in a game since they put up 10 against the New Mexico Mustangs on January 20th, 2012. Eric Hancock made 32 saves in the Jacks 13th win of the season.
The Jacks will battle the Wildcats tomorrow night from the Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls. Jacks fans can listen to the game live on Classic Rock 102.1 FM KFZX and watch on FASTHockey.com at 6:50PM with the voice of the Jacks, Joey Battaino.
