Amarillo, Texas (Sept. 12, 2015) – The Odessa Jackalopes out shot the Amarillo Bulls 41-31 but didn’t get the bounces needed to earn an opening night win falling to the Bulls, 6-3, Saturday night at the Amarillo Civic Center.
In the first, the Jacks found themselves down two goals early but got right back into the hockey game when Gray Marr scored at 6:59 on a top shelf wrister over Bulls goalie Anton Martinsson’s left shoulder. Amarillo pushed its lead back up to two just before the end of the period when Tyler Harkins fluke-dump caught goalie Dean Shatzer off guard, giving the Bulls a 3-1 lead.
Amarillo’s Zach Sarnowski made it two-for-two for the Bulls on the power play in the second, extending the Amarillo lead to three. After Andrew McLean dropped the gloves with Jacon Nitsche and Taylor Gatto danced with Nick Santoro the Jacks surged to within one goal with two quick tallies late in the second period. Zach Main scored on the power play at 16:11 and Ryan MacKeller scored with six seconds left to make it 4-3.
The Bulls smothered any Odessa comeback with two more goals in the third to take a 6-3, a lead they wouldn’t give up.
The Jacks are off until the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota from September 23-26, where they open up play at 4:30 p.m. against the Minnesota Wilderness on September 23.
