Waxin-Engback, MacKellar, Menslage, and Christian Hausinger tally goals for the Jackalopes

ODESSA, TX – On Tuesday night, the Jackalopes welcomed in the Wichita Falls Wildcats to the Ector County Coliseum. The Jackalopes were looking for their first win in the month of February, dropping the past ten contests. The Jackalopes have held their own against the Wildcats in the previous six contests this season going 2-5-1 with four of the games decided by only one goal. Tonight the Jackalopes started Robin Johansson in goal for the first time since January 23rd. He was countered by Austin Shaw (Princeton) in goal for the Wildcats.

Wichita Falls struck 9:21 into the hockey game on a two-on-rush that was netted by Austin Beaulieu (Alabama-Huntsville) Beaulieu dragged the puck to the middle of the ice and beat Robin Johansson over the shoulder to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage. The Wildcats would add another at 11:29 when Evan Okeley (Air Force) snuck a sharp-angled shot through the right arm of Johansson. Johansson would be pulled in favor of Tanner Creel at that point in the game. The Jacks were outshot 20-7 in the first and trailed 2-0 after one period.

The Wildcats continued to pour it on early in the second and added a third goal at 5:18 on a wrist shot from Max Reisinger from the right-wing circle over the blocker hand of Tanner Creel. At 7:03, Konstantin Chernyuk (Maine) was whistled for boarding. The Jacks took advantage on the power play when Razmuz Waxin-Engback put home a one-time from the right circle for his 18th goal of the season. The Jackalopes continued to pressure and Austin Shaw left a juicy rebound on a Zach Zech shot that was potted by Ryan MacKellar to make it 3-2. The Jacks were back in the game and outshot the Wildcats 13-11 in the second stanza.

The Jacks knotted the score one minute and forty seconds into the third with Christian Hausinger’s (Sacred Heart) seventh goal of the season. His shot from an acute angle slipped by the right pad of Shaw to even the game 3-3. Just 26 seconds later, Nate Werhane was whistled from boarding and the Wildcats regained the lead. A puck that came bouncing off of the end boards toward the front of the net was put in by Nick Farmer to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead. A little over 2:00 later the Wildcats built their lead to two goals. The Jackalopes could not clear their zone and Nick Farmer found Kevin Charyszyn (Air Force) all alone in front of Creel for his 22nd tally of the year. The Jackalopes would be granted a power play at 7:08 and Dakoda Menslage finished off a nice rush began by Danny Kiraly in his own zone. Razmuz Waxin-Engback fed Menslage for his seventh goal of the season at 7:30 to make it 5-4 Wildcats. When Danny Kiraly was whistled for a high sticking double minor penalty, the Wildcats scored their second power play tally of the night at 12:54 on Austin Beaulieu’s second goal of the evening. The Wildcats added a Nikita Litviak tally at 17:57 and took the contest by a final of 7-4. The Jacks end the season series with the Wildcats with a mark of 2-5-0-1 in the 2014-15 campaign.
