Corpus Christi’s Hojbjerg notches hat trick in Jackalopes loss to IceRays.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Riding high after a series split in Fort Worth, the Jacks were looking to win their second contest in a row on Tuesday night in Corpus Christi. The IceRays were coming off a home split with the first-place Wichita Falls Wildcats. Yoshi Kuroiwa made his 15th appearance of the year in goal for the Odessa Jackalopes. He was opposed by Ben Myers of the IceRays, who was looking for his third win of the season.

In the first period, the Jacks were unable to capitalize on their power play opportunities and the IceRays would draw first blood at 12:57 on Lucas Bennett’s third goal of the season. The only goal of the first period would give the IceRays a 1-0 advantage despite the fact that the Jacks outshot the IceRays, 13-10.

In the second, the IceRays were getting most of the scoring chances. They would outshoot the Jacks 15-11 in the period, but the Jacks made the most of those 11 opportunities, tying the game at 17:21 on Robb Stautz’s fourth goal of the season. The IceRays would come right back just 26 seconds later and regain the lead on Martin Hojbjerg’s (HODGE-burg) 2nd goal of the game. The Jacks tied the game with only two seconds remaining on the clock on Joey Palumbo’s 3rd goal of the season. The Jacks got to the third period all tied up with the IceRays at two goals apiece.

The Jacks took a third period lead on Leo Lumm’s first goal as a Jackalope at 1:57 on the power play. Lumm got a rebound off a shot from Razmuz Waxin-Engback and beat Myers to give the Jacks a 3-2 lead. Martin Hojbjerg tied the game after the Jacks defenseman, who was expecting an icing call got crossed up and gave the puck away to the IceRays. Hojbjerg completed the hat trick at 13:30 of the third period. His three goal effort gives Hojbjerg seven goals on the season. Tony Roisum added an empty net goal for the IceRays as they defeated the Jackalopes, 5-3.

The same two teams will battle tomorrow night at 7:05PM from the American Bank Center. Jacks fans can hear the game with the voice of the Jacks, Joey Battaino live on Classic Rock 102.1 KFZX or watch on FASTHockey.
