Jacks Hop Past Tomahawks

Blaine, MN – The Odessa Jackalopes (3-2-0-0) were victorious again for the third straight game as they beat the Johnstown Tomahawks (2-5-0-0) by a score of 5-1. The game took place on the final day of the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota.

Odessa’s high scoring offense came to life again as Brenden Stanko and Petr Miko netted their first goals of the season, while Evan Somoza and Lucas Andersson added to their season totals. Miko added another one late to secure the victory. Alex Camarre was in net, saving 24 shots and earning his second win of the season.

Odessa scored early in the first when Stanko netted the first Jackalopes goal only 2:46 into the first period. Miko would add one seven minutes later when Wilson’s shot skyrocketed, only to be swatted in by Miko for the 2-0 lead.

Starting the second on a power play, Odessa would cash in their chips only 30 seconds into the period as Somoza found twine for his third of the season thanks to a backdoor pass from Zach Heintz. Andersson’s slapper was in full swing as he took a tough angle shot, but squeezed it past Johnstown’s goaltender, Vinny Purpura for the 4-0 lead.

The Tomahawks would get one back on a power play of their own with only 30 seconds remaining in the 2nd period from Roman Kraemer, but that was all the scoring they had.

The Jacks would add another late in regulation as Miko was found by Zac Herrmann on a wide-open backdoor for the easy goal, his second of the game.

Purpura faced 45 shots and was only able to save 40 of them end route to a loss for the Tomahawks. The Jacks finished the showcase above .500 (3-1-0) for the first time since joining the NAHL seven seasons ago.

Jacks will be back at it next weekend as they travel to Corpus Christi to take on the IceRays in a divisional matchup.
