Jacks Hop Past Bugs in OT Thriller

Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes (8-7-1-1) outplayed the Shreveport Mudbugs (12-4-0-1) in the final game of the weekend by a score of 2-1. The victory was the Jacks first against a divisional-foe over .500 on the season.

Odessa got on the board first when Petr Miko buried his fifth of the season at the 4:05 mark of the second period. The Jacks power play spread the ice well, leading to Miko’s snipe from the right circle to beat Shreveport’s Gustavs Grigals for the 1-0 lead.

The Mudbugs were able to get one back on their own power play just over eight and a half minutes later. Jordan Fader tipped a beautiful shot over the shoulder of the Jackalopes’ netminder, Alex Camarre, to tie the game at 1 in the second.

A scoreless third left the Mudbugs seeing stars after multiple hits leaving the Shreveport players a little slow.

It worked in the Jacks favor as Peyton Frantti secured the victory in overtime. Frantti skated the puck coast to coast before feeding a puck in front of the net that went off the stick of the Mudbugs’ defender, Jack Clement, and past Grigals for the game-winner 3:23 into the overtime period.

Camarre stonewalled 27 shots during the victory, while his counterpart saved 43 shots.

The Jackalopes power play finished 2-6 on the weekend and the penalty kill was just as good at a great 6-7 in the two games.

The Jackalopes return to the Ector County Coliseum on Tuesday night to take on the Amarillo Bulls for one game as part of the Freeway Series.
