Jacks hire radio broadcaster

ODESSA, TXThe Odessa Jackalopes announced today that Minnesota native Tony Brown has been hired as the team’s Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations. Brown will be only the 3rd play-by-play man in the Jacks’ 15-year history, preceded by Bob Hards and Brien Rea, as the organization enters its first season as a member of the North American Hockey League.

Brown, 23, is a 2010 graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, which has produced some of the nation’s biggest names in sports and news broadcasting. The Rochester, Minnesota, native, served as a broadcast assistant for the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch in 2009 and handled play-by-play duties for Syracuse Hockey during his last two years in Central New York. Most recently, Brown produced and hosted numerous programs on Syracuse’s ESPN Radio affiliate.

“Tony has a great gift and a great voice,” said Jackalopes General Manager Joe Clark. “We listened to many, many audio clips, but Tony stood out. We are thrilled to have Tony launch his professional career here.”

Brown will come on board with the Jacks on July 25.

“From the very first conversations I had with Joe, I could tell that the Jackalopes are an extraordinary organization,” said Brown, “I can’t wait to get to Odessa and get to work forging a strong on-air identity for the Jacks’ terrific fanbase.”

Brown’s role with the Jackalopes will also include handling the team’s website and assisting the front office with all media-related duties. “He will be the liaison between our organization and the Permian Basin media,” Clark said.

The Odessa Jackalopes will celebrate their 15th Anniversary this season and their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League in 2011-2012.  Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or visiting jackalopes.org.
