Wichita Falls, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes and Wichita Falls Wildcats were tied 1-1 going into the third period, but a late ‘Cats tally proved too much as the Wildcats held on for a 2-1 victory Saturday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas.
In the first, the Wildcats took an early lead on a power play goal by Nikita Litviak (6) who snuck a short side wrister past Jacks goaltender Dean Shatzer. Odessa returned the favor on its first power play at 13:50 when Eric Carreras took a perfect feed from Daniel Kiraly and snuck it through the five-hole of Wildcats’ goalie Justin Kapelmaster to tie the game 1-1.
Wichita Falls outshot Odessa 10-6 in the second, and each team had two power play opportunities, but neither team was able to breakthrough.
In the third, both teams traded chances but Nick Rosa (4) picked up an initial blocked shot from the point and shoveled it past an unsuspecting Shatzer to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead at 15:50. Odessa pulled Shatzer with under a minute left, flurried pucks on net but failed to find and equalizer.
Shatzer took the hard-luck loss in his most impressive performance this season. The Colorado native made 30 saves on 32 shots. At the other end, Kapelmaster picked up his seventh win of the year making 23 saves on 24 shots to move to 7-0-0 on the year.
The Jacks head home for three games against the Amarillo Bulls at Ector County Coliseum for Pink in the Rink weekend from October 22-24. $1 hot dogs and half priced beer on Thursday, October 22, and dueling Pianos, Jersey auction on October 24.
