JACKS GIVE UP LATE GOAL; LOSE 3-2 TO TOPEKA
Former Jackalope Tyler Poulsen scores with 16 seconds left extending Jacks losing streak to nine
Odessa, TX – After a 5-3 loss last night, the Jacks were searching for their first victory in their past eight games. The Jacks went back to Yoshi Kuroiwa to try to earn his 3rd victory of the season, after he struggled on Thursday night, giving up four goals on nine shots. The RoadRunners went back to Drew Vogler, who gave up only one goal on Thursday night.
After a tightly contested first five minutes of the game, the ‘Runners got the first power play of the game on a Jacks penalty by Phil Garza. On a goal-mouth scramble, Jake Kamrass found control of the puck and slipped it by Yoshi Kuroiwa. The RoadRunners led 1-0 after one period and outshot the Jacks 9-8.
The Jacks tied the game at 1:01 of the second period on Robb Stautz third goal of the season. The puck was off to the side of the net and Stautz continued to bang away at the puck until it crossed the line. Topeka regained the lead at 2:43 on a goal by Jason Fernsler. Sly Sutter shot the puck from the slot and Yoshi Kuroiwa couldn’t locate the rebound. The ‘Runners piled on and Fernsler slid the puck under Kuroiwa. Topeka took a 2-1 lead to the locker room after two.
The Jacks tied the game at 1:12 on Joey Palumbo’s first career junior goal. Palumbo snapped a wrist shot off on the left wing that be Vogler on the short side. The Jacks and the ‘Runners played tight checking hockey the rest of the way and both teams got their chance to take the lead late in the game. The Jacks received a power play at 16:31 on a penalty by Tomas Nechala. The Jacks could not score and Drew McLean received a penalty with 2:01 to go in the game. Tyler Poulsen finished off a 3 on 2 with only 16 seconds remaining in the third. Topeka hung on to steal a 3-2 victory from the Jacks at the Ector County Coliseum in front of 1,893 fans.
The Jacks next contest is Friday October 25th, when the Jacks battle the Lone Star Brahmas in Fort Worth. You can hear the games live on Classic Rock 102.1 KFZX.
