Jacks finish first day of Training Camp

ODESSA, TX — Day one is now in the books for Odessa Jacks Head Coach Todd Watson and his staff. Compete levels were high for the team both on and off ice as Coach Watson put the players through a pretty grueling on ice session followed by two off ice sessions run by coach Phillips including some off ice base line testing. “We have a good idea where we stand for the most part early on in camp with our team both on and off the ice”. states Phillips. The staff was upbeat and happy with the first day and is interested to see if the players can continue at these high levels as camp progresses.

Coach Watson addressed the team at the start of camp and emphasized the importance of Family and team. Watson is determined to bring a winning attitude to Odessa this season both on and off the ice. “Everyone felt that change was needed for success and it looks like the staff is in line for those changes to make a difference going forward to bring “Jacks Hockey” back to Odessa” states Jacks Director of media relations Jason Ruff

The day concluded with an intra-squad scrimmage with the players being separated into two teams. Team white emerged victorious by a score of 3-1. The Jackalopes will host another inter-squad scrimmage that will be open to the public on Wednesday, August 28 at 7:30 pm at MCM Ice.

The Jacks will continue training camp through Thursday this week before heading to Shreveport on Friday to play a couple pre season games VS the Mudbugs this weekend.

Texas RoadRunners Head Coach and GM Mike Beavis has been in Odessa the past few days working with Coach Watson and his staff both on and off the ice. “It’s great to get to work with the Jacks players and get to know them and have them get to know me as well. The guys are working hard and realize that Todd and I are working together which helps give the players someone else to talk to and work with over the course of the season.” states Beavis. The Texas RoadRunners are the NA3HL affiliate of the Odessa Jackalopes.
