ODESSA, TX — The Jackalopes started their first home weekend of 2020 with a 4-1 loss to the Amarillo Bulls (30-7-1-2) on Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum.
The game started with the Bulls jumping right out of the gate and establishing an aggressive offensive forecheck. Led by Zach Stern in goal, the Jacks were able to survive the push from Amarillo until about the eight minute mark of the first period. After an aggressive shift by the Jackalopes, that produced a few scoring chances, the Bulls went down the ice and scored on a quick passing play to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams ended the first period scoreless on the power play.
In the second period, the Bulls scored two more goals less then two minutes apart, one of which came off the stick of David Hill, his first of two goals on the night.
Down 3-0, the Jackalopes had some good chances to get on the score-board including a three-on-one opportunity, but they could not find a way to covert.
Amarillo picked up one more goal credited to Hill to finish the game with a 4-0 victory. Amarillo out-shot Odessa 46-11 and both teams finished scoreless on the man-advantage.
The Jackalopes will reset and look to even the weekend series in game two of three this weekend against Amarillo. Saturday’s game will start at 7:15 pm.
