JACKS END 17-GAME HOME SLIDE WITH 3-1 VICTORY OF CORPUS CHRISTI

Leo Lumm’s two-goal night helps Jacks to their second consecutive win and third in their last four games.

ODESSA, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes, members of the North American Hockey League, came home on Friday night for a two-game set with the Corpus Christi IceRays after four straight games on the road. The Jacks were coming off of a 3-1 win against the Corpus Christi IceRays on Wednesday night from the American Bank Center and looking to win their second game in a row. Unfortunately, home had been anything but sweet for the Odessa Jackalopes. The Jacks had been winless in their past 17 home games coming into action tonight.

The IceRays responded to their Wednesday night home loss with a good first period against the Jackalopes. Nick Monfils scored his first goal of the season since being recalled from Lincoln of the USHL at 10:35 on a power play to give the ‘Rays a 1-0 advantage. The IceRays outshot the Jacks, 12-6 in the first period and had a 1-0 lead after one period.

The Jacks got some momentum from a Leo Lumm fight back in the first period that seemed to carry over to the second. The Jacks tied the game at 6:41 on a point shot from Davis Chavis II that was redirected by Alex Alger just outside of the crease. Alger’s third goal of the year tied the game at 1-1. The Jacks would take the lead at 13:38 when Leo Lumm made the most of a two-on-one that turned into to somewhat of a broken play. Lumm passed the puck over to Lucas Laub, who was robbed by IceRays goalie Ben Myers, but the ‘Rays could not clear the rebound. Lumm tapped the puck in from the right side of the net and the Jacks took a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

In the third, the Jacks would get an insurance goal from Leo Lumm for his fifth goal of the season on a patient play by Razmuz Waxin-Engback. He waited out the defenders and found Lumm all alone in front of the net for his second goal of the game. Yoshi Kuroiwa made 25 saves and picked up his fifth victory of the season. The Jacks have now won two in a row and three of their past four games.
