JACKS DROP PENALTY FILLED, FIGHT FILLED CONTEST

Sjodahl hurt in final minute leads to brawl in the third

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS – The Jacks shook up the goaltending position this week with the release of Parker Butler and the acquisition of veteran goaltender Forbes Ploszaj from the Wenatchee Wild. Ploszaj made his first start for the Jackalopes Friday night against the Lone Star Brahmas, who split a road series the weekend prior in Amarillo.

In the first period, the Jacks found themselves trailing 8:20 into the game. Mercyhurst commit Mark Bowen found himself on a breakaway but had the puck swiped away from Jesse Junttila. Cody Wickline followed up the play and beat Ploszaj between the pads. The Jacks found themselves shorthanded late in the period. Sebastian Vidmar scored his first of three goals in the game at 18:41 to put the Brahmas up 2-0 at the conclusion of the period.

The Jacks cut the lead to 2-1 midway through period number two on a power play goal. Nicolas Carbone scored on a shot from the point that deflected off of a Brahmas defenseman. More penalty trouble for the Jacks resulted in the Brahmas going back up by two at 14:07 of the period on Sebastian Vidmar’s second goal of the game. The Brahmas took a 3-1 advantage to the dressing room after two periods.

Once again the Jacks cut the Brahmas advantage to one goal in the third. Drew McLean scored his second goal of the year at 1:52 on a nice cross-ice pass from captain Chad Guderian. However, the Brahmas would answer once again on a goal by Mark Bowen, who finished off a two-on-one to make it 4-2 Brahmas. Sebastian Vidmar finished off the hat-trick at 6:04 of the third. In the final minute of the game, Hampus Sjodahl was targeted by Brahmas forward Roman Uchyn, who checked Sjodahl from behind. Matt Beranek went after Uchyn, leading to a mini brawl at center ice. Multiple players were penalized and Uchyn’s hit on Sjodahl has been placed under league review. Sjodahl was transported to a local hospital where he is receiving treatment for a head injury sustained from the hit. The Jacks ask that you keep Hampus Sjodahl in your thoughts and prayers tonight.

The Jacks will try to split with the Brahmas Saturday night and end a five-game losing streak. The voice of the Jacks, Joey Battaino has the call at 7:15 PM CT on Classic Rock 102.1 FM KFZX and FASTHockey.com
