Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes (5-5-0-1) dropped their fourth straight decision to the Lone Star Brahmas (5-4-0-3) by a score of 3-1. The loss was their fourth straight at home. The Jacks are still looking for their first victory at the Jack Shack.
The Jacks had a lot of great opportunities on the night, but only Viktor Johansson was able to find the back of the net. Alex Camarre (2-1-0-1) took his first regulation loss of the season whilst turning aside 18 shots on the night.
The Brahmas got on the board first with only 2:16 remaining in the first period when Julian Biondo found Blake Ripley on the back door of a 2-on-1 chance. Ripley redirected it past Camarre by just sticking the stick out for the 1-0 lead.
Lone Star would add two more in the second period with both coming from Justin Addamo. Addamo stole a puck while shorthanded to slide it past Camarre before having a pass bounce off his skate and in for the second of the period only a minute and a half later for the 3-0 lead after the two periods.
The Jacks got one back early in the third thanks to Viktor Johansson’s first of the season. Nick Wilson gave Zach Heintz a chance at a slapshot from the top of the right circle that was saved. It laid in front of the net for Johansson to poke past Gibson for the goal.
The Jackalopes penalty kill was perfect at 5-5, but power play struggles left the Jacks scoreless on seven attempts. The Brahmas goaltender, Mitchell Gibson (5-2-0-2), was able to turn aside 21 shots for the victory.
The Jacks return to the ice on Thursday as they take on the Topeka Roadrunnners for a three-game set from Thursday-Saturday at the Ector County Coliseum. The Jacks will be wearing specialty jerseys in conjunction with ECISD to celebrate Red Ribbon Week around the USA.
