NORTH RICHMOND HILLS, TX — After a scoreless first period, the Jackalopes were able to out-battle the Lone Star Brahmas 3-1 in regulation.
The Jackalopes struck first late in the 2nd period as Kyle Herbster was able to get a stick on a rebound in front and back-hand the puck into the back of the net to put Odessa ahead 1-0. The Brahmas would counter just over a minute later and tie the game 1-1.
That score would hold into the third period, both sides trading scoring chances. The Jackalopes through they had the go-ahead goal when Jared Christy deflected a puck up high and into the net. The ruling of the ice was initially good-goal, but the officials overturned the ruling, saying that Christy knocked the puck in with a high stick.
The Jackalopes continued to battle though and this time the Jackalopes broke through courtesy of Rex Moe who had a bouncing puck deflect in off his skate. This Jackalope goal did count and Odessa regained the lead late in the third period.
Odessa got an insurance goal off the stick of Vaclav Zidek, his fourth goal of the season, to seal the win 3-1.
The win improves Odessa’s record to 3-4-1 overall on the season. The Jackalopes will go for the series sweep tomorrow night against the Brahmas, face-off is set for 7:30 pm.
