Jackalopes fire 30 shots on goal; Hoffman and Brown strike in 4-2 loss to Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – With only nine points separating the Jacks from a South Division playoff spot, the Jacks found themselves in a location where winning on the road has been sparse as of late. The Jackalopes tried to end a treacherous road winless streak on Friday night in Corpus Christi against the 16-11-5 IceRays. Home is certainly been good to the IceRays this season. Coming into action tonight, the IceRays have posted a 16-2-0 mark at home, while remaining winless on the road at 0-9-5 in the 2014-15 season. The Jacks sent Tanner Creel between the pipes for the seventh straight contest, while the IceRays countered with Andrew Lindgren.

The Jacks were presented with three power play opportunities in the opening frame, but were unable to make the IceRays pay. The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first, with the Jackalopes outshooting the IceRays, 13-11 in the first.

A slew of penalties in the second period put the Jacks on the power play midway through the period. ‘Rays forward Connor Kelly broke behind the Jacks defense and scored a shorthanded breakaway goal to put Corpus Christi out front, 1-0. The Jacks tied the game 44 seconds later on a great shot by Corey Hoffman, for his second goal of the season. His shot from the left wing went off the crossbar and straight down behind the IceRays goaltender. The teams were tied at a goal apiece after two periods.

At 6:47 of the third, Ryan Cusin broke in on the left wing and fired a shot past the blocker side of Tanner Creel to put the ‘Rays out front again. Just 42 seconds later, Tanner Lomsnes gave the IceRays a 3-1 lead by legging out a delayed icing call, and beating Creel with a shot under the blocker hand. Derek Brown pulled the Jacks back to whitin a goal at 8:57 when he finished a silky cross-ice pass from Corey Hoffman (Cornell). The IceRays would pot another to go up by two again at 12:21. The Jacks tried to mount a late comeback, but it fell short. The Jacks fell to the IceRays on Friday night by a score of 4-2 in front of 2,395 fans at the American Bank Center.

The Jacks will look to split the series tomorrow night and end a 17-game road winless streak tomorrow night from Corpus Christi. The voice of the Jacks, Joey Battaino has the call at 7:05 PM CST on Classic Rock 102.1 FM KFZX and FASTHockey.com
