JACKS AND ODESSA SHRINERS RAISE $50,000 FOR SHRINERS HOSPITAL IN GALVESTON

Jersey auction and Maverick Cook-off Raise Money for Galveston burn hospital

ODESSA, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes, members of the North American Hockey League, are proud to announce that in partnership with the Shriners of Odessa, we were able to raise $50,000 during Shriners weekend at the Ector County Coliseum. The Jacks wore their special maroon colored Shriners jerseys on Friday and Saturday night during contests with their South division rival, the Lone Star Brahmas.3,142 fans were a part of the action this weekend at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa to watch the Jacks Razmuz Waxin-Engback net a hat trick Friday night to give the Jacks a 4-3 win, and the rough stuff that came after the Jacks dropped a 3-0 decision on Saturday night.

The Jacks and the Odessa Shriners teamed up for the fifth straight season to help raise money for the Shriners Hospital locations in Galveston and Houston. In addition to the jersey auction, the Shriners also held their fifth annual Maverick Cook-off including a casi sanctioned chili event. All proceeds from the cook-off were donated to the Odessa Shrine Club. In all, the Jacks and the Odessa Shriners were able to raise $50,000 for the third consecutive season for the Shriners Hospital in Galveston.

“When we started this event five years ago, we raised $7,000, said President of the Odessa Shriners Blaine Corbin. “Now we are consistently raising $50,000. It says a lot about the kind-spirited people of Odessa. We want to thank each and every person who donated to this cause,”

The most desirable jersey this weekend was Razmuz Waxin-Engback’s. After his hat trick Friday and physical play on Saturday, Waxin-Engback’s jersey went for $1,800. Jacks Team President Dan Lavergne was not surprised by the generosity of the people in Odessa.

“I have been in Odessa since (19)97 and the people here are second to none. The kindness and hospitality from Odessans is unbelievable and it was on display once again this weekend. It was a pleasure working with Blaine Corbin, Rick Coe, and the rest of the Odessa Shriners. We look forward to a long-standing relationship with them,”

The Jacks host the Amarillo Bulls this weekend for the final two games of the regular season. On Saturday, the Jacks will honor their billet families with a pre-game ceremony.
