JACKS ACQUIRE DOUCET FROM TOPEKA
RoadRunners ship power forward to Odessa for future considerations.
ODESSA, TX– Deep in the thick of a South Division playoff push, the Odessa Jackalopes acquired some sizable forward help Monday, as the Topeka RoadRunners sent 6’4” winger Ryan Doucet to the Jacks in exchange for future considerations. The San Jose, California native tallied three points and three assists in 33 games with Topeka this season and will make his Jackalopes debut during Odessa’s February 10th road contest in New Mexico.
A power forward by trade, Doucet (pronounced DOO-sett), ranked seventh on the Topeka roster in PIM’s with 51 prior to Monday’s transaction. In order to make room for Doucet on the 23-man roster, the Jackalopes released forward Chris Hellebuyck Monday, returning the older brother of Odessa netminder Connor Hellebuyck to the Michigan-based IceJets of the NA3HL. In five games for the Jacks, Hellebuyck was held scoreless with 2 penalty minutes and a minus-3 rating.
Next up for the Jacks, it’s a three-game road series in Rio Rancho, New Mexico against the last-place New Mexico Mustangs. Odessa’s next home game comes Friday, February 24th, when the Jacks play host to the division rival Corpus Christi IceRays at Ector County Coliseum.
The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or by visiting the Jacks online at www.jackalopes.org.
