Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes, proud members of the North American Hockey League, have signed defenseman Cade Roberts to a tender for the 2018-19 season. Roberts is the third tender the Jackalopes have signed, following Martin Pietraszek and Matt Hutton.
Roberts, the native of St. Louis, Missouri, played out east for a couple years before returning back to the Midwest to play for the St. Louis Selects 18U team of the NAPHL 18U. Roberts is a big defenseman, standing at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds.
“I’m excited to be part of a Jackalopes organization that I like and respect,” says Roberts. “The Jackalopes’ style of play matches my skills and strengths, and I look forward to playing for Coaches Gatto and Campbell as well as my new teammates.”
Roberts has played the entire 2017-18 campaign for CarShield AAA 18U. Roberts led his team in points by a defenseman with 13 (3-10-13) and fifth in the NAPHL in the same category.
“Cade is a big strong Defenseman that is not afraid to engage physically,” says associate head coach Cody Campbell. “He will bring some size and strength to our d-core next year as well as great leadership abilities.”
Cade helped lead his team to first place with a 16-1-1 record during the NAPHL regular season. Carshield AAA made it all the way to the second to last day before losing to the eventual champions, the Esmark Stars.
“It was a lot of fun playing for Carshield and in the NAPHL,” Roberts says. “I also learned a lot about the importance of leadership as a captain on the team, and my coaches helped me improve my overall game.
Roberts becomes the first defenseman the Jackalopes have tendered in preparation of losing three core blue line players next season.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL – plus or minus any trades – which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
