Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes, of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are proud to announce the signing of goaltender Brett Epp of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) Blizzard in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MNJHL) to a tender contract for the 2017-18 season.
“It’s a huge honor to sign with such a great organization,” said Epp. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a season to start.”
Epp, 19, played for parts of two seasons with the Blizzard organization, but he really shined last season, appearing in 36 games for the Blizzard during the 2016-17, recording a 2.54 goals against average and .921 save percentage. Epp’s playoff experience is nothing to scoff at either, earning a .941 save percentage and 1.79 goals against average in 15 playoff games last season. Prior to OCN, Epp played his midgets for CAC Canadian AA and part of one season for the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).
Epp comes in as the sole goaltender on the Jackalopes roster currently, following the aging out of both Jonny Hogue and Jon Flakne.
“Brett is a fantastic addition to our team,” expresses head coach, Greg Gatto. “He’s an older player with a lot of experience, especially in the playoffs. It’s great to have found your potential #1 goaltender already”.
Epp becomes the seventh and final player to be tendered by the Jackalopes for the 2017-18 season. He joins forwards Ty Black of the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders (NAPHL), Spencer Van Tiem of the Ohio Blue Jackets U18 (T1EHL), and Collin O’Hearn of the Colorado Springs Tigers 16U (NAPHL), Matteo Menotti of the Chicago Young Americans U18 (HPHL), Viktor Johansson of the Linköping HC J20 (SuperElit), and defenseman Cole Barney of the Wooster Oilers (NA3HL).
“It’s a great opportunity for me to come down to Texas, put my work boots on, and help the organization win some hockey games,” exclaims Epp. “I can’t wait to point my wheels south and start my journey to Texas.”
