Shreveport, LA – A four-goal second period by the Shreveport Mudbugs (14-4-1-1) was too much for the Odessa Jackalopes (9-10-1-1) to overcome as the Jacks dropped their third straight game by a score of 5-0 on Saturday night. This was the first time Odessa has been held scoreless this season.
The Mudbugs opened the floodgates in the second as Jack Clement wrists one through traffic to beat Brett Epp and start the scoring at the 5:53 mark of the middle frame.
Within the next 4 minutes and 22 second, the Mudbugs got three more goals for the 4-0 lead. Cameron Cook gets his 7th of the season on a power play snipe, before Jake Transit found twine on a back door shot for his fourth tally of the year 30 seconds after. Kieran Durgan finished it off with his 6th goal of the year in his 8th game since returning from the USHL for the 4-0 Shreveport lead.
Brett Epp made four highlight reel plays in the game, but was relieved after Durgan’s goal, making 30 saves before allowing all four goals. Alex Camarre came on in relief, saving 16 chances of his own, but it was too little too late. The Mudbugs’ netminder, James Durham, posted his third shutout of the season, saving only 20 shots from Odessa.
Cook added one more in the third period just as power play time expired to take the 5-0 lead, and eventual victory.
The Jackalopes return to action as they welcome the Corpus Christi IceRays to the Jack Shack for the first time this regular season next Friday and Saturday to finish off the month of November.
