Jackalopes Net 4 in Victory

Topeka, KS – The Odessa Jackalopes (13-10-2-1) pulled off a 4-2 victory over the Topeka RoadRunners (10-16-1-1) at Landon Arena. The matchup was the first of a three game set between the two squads in Topeka, Kansas this weekend.

The Jackalopes kicked off the scoring early on as Peyton Frantti leaves a puck behind for Evan Somoza to scoop up and fire off short-side past Topeka’s Sam Metcalf only 1:39 into the first frame for his team-leading 9th goal of the year.

Dylan Johnson followed suit late in the period with his 3rd tally of the season. Zach Heintz centered a pass that Noah Poindexter played quickly to Johnson in the slot. As Johnson was skating to his left, he rifled it back to his right for the 2-0 lead.

Blake Bride decided to join the party 5:13 into the second period with one of his own. Matt Brown won a faceoff cleanly to the inside of the right circle, and Bride snapped off his team-tying 9th goal of the season for the Jacks third goal of the contest.

Topeka got one back within 3 minutes of the 3rd period just after the power play expired for Topeka. Camarre’s save rebounded softly lands in front of the net where the RoadRunners had traffic to put it back in. Later in the period, Topeka would get one more on the power play in the same fashion to bring themselves back within one.

The most unlikely candidate would ice the game for the Jackalopes with 4:28 remaining in regulation. Evan Somoza fed a pass between the circle and nobody but Joey Rosa was there, snapping one off for his first goal of the season to put the Jacks ahead 4-2 for the eventual final score.

Alex Camarre played extremely well, stonewalling 27 of the RoadRunners shots, while his counterpart on the other side of the ice made 26 saves while taking the loss.

The Jacks and RoadRunners return to action tomorrow night for game two of three on the weekend series at the Kansas ExpoCentre. Make sure to tune into Classic Rock 102 to catch up on all the up-to-date, live action for tomorrow night’s contest.
