Odessa, TX – Matt Brown’s rebound goal halfway through the third period would be the difference maker as the Odessa Jackalopes (25-14-3-2) beat out the Amarillo Bulls (15-19-4-3) by a final score 4-2.
Amarillo broke through first with only 4:57 remaining in the second period. Austin O’Rourke picked up the puck in the left corner of the offensive zone, and while keeping it on his backhand the whole way, cut in front of the net and slide it past Odessa’s Brett Epp for the lead.
The Jacks wouldn’t go down without a fight, and starting the third period on a power play, they tie it up only 31 seconds later. Amarillo’s Jason Grande made a save, but the hard rebound found the stick of Zac Herrmann, who fired a one-timer past the goaltender for the tie game.
A minute and a half later, the Jacks found themselves shorthanded, but the Tom Brady-esque pass from Nick Wilson found the stick of Dylan Johnson for a breakaway. Johnson didn’t need to fakeout the goaltender, and he just buried a shot through the five-hole of Grande for the lead.
Amarillo would get one back on a penalty shot from Trey Bagwell, the first of the season the Jackalopes have had.
Odessa finished it off with two more unanswered goals. Only 30 seconds after the media timeout, Eric Huss fired a shot that Grande kicked to the backdoor, and right onto the stick of Matt Brown who tallied his 9th goal of the season for the game-winning goal.
Peyton Frantti would add an empty netter with only seven seconds remaining, as the Jackalopes find themselves victorious to finish off the weekend. Brett Epp stopped 29 shots from the Bulls, and counterpart prevented 35 of the Jackalopes attempts taking the loss.
