North Richland Hills, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes (8-5-0-2) and the Lone Star Brahmas (8-4-0-1) began the weekend tied for second place in the south division. It was the Brahmas who came out on top in this game by a score of 2-1 in an overtime game.
Evan Rochowiak netted his seventh goal of the season for the Jacks midway through the third on the power play for the only goal of the night for Odessa. Brett Epp was great in net, turning back 19 shots during the loss.
The offense got started in the second period when the Brahmas’ Ryan Orgel took a slapshot from the right circle that hit off the Jackalopes defense and slide past Epp for the 1-0 lead.
The Jacks would mount their comeback in the third as they headed to the power play for the fifth time on the night. After a sloppy, loose puck in front of the net, Evan Somoza popped the puck in the air. It hit off of Rochowiak and bounced in past Lone Star’s Harrison Feeney to tie the game with 9:44 remaining in regulation.
The Jackalopes would head to another overtime period, but lose as a two-on-one breakaway would lead to another Brahmas victory.
Feeney made 30 saves en route to the victory for Lone Star. The Jackalopes penalty kill was perfect again on the night, while the power play netted one. With the victory, the Brahmas move into second place in the south division with a point lead over the 3rd place Odessa Jackalopes.
The teams will conclude the weekend tomorrow night at the Nytex Sports Centre in North Richland Hills with puck drop coming at 7:30.
