JACKALOPES EXTEND CONTRACT WITH COUNTY
Team also announces new era of ticket pricing at Tuesday news conference.
ODESSA, TX– Ector County Commissioners voted unanimously on Monday to extend their contract with the Odessa Jackalopes hockey team and Odessa Concessions, Inc. for another five years. The 5-0 vote means the Jackalopes will continue to call the Ector County Coliseum home through at least the 2016-17 season and the Jackalopes’ ownership group will continue to manage and operate all concessions at the coliseum for all events over that span.
The Jackalopes, members of the North American Hockey League, are in the midst of their 15th season on the ice and are the anchor tenant of the coliseum. At a media luncheon Tuesday, Jackalopes General Manager Joe Clark also announced that the team will implement a new ticketing and parking plan that will reduce costs for fans attending games starting next season.
“We are obviously pleased to have our contract with the county extended another five years,” Clark said, “We have strong ties with Ector County officials, and of course Don Thorn, who runs the building. It’s all about relationships and it’s all about making this a viable business in this community.”
As part of the Jackalopes revamped ticketing structure for the 2012-13 season, Clark said fans will be able to purchase walk-up tickets for as little as $7 and will no longer be charged a $3 general parking fee.
“While we’re still in the playoff hunt right now, we are always planning ahead,” Clark said, “We will be sending out our [season ticket] renewal letters soon, and we needed to make these changes. We think we’ll receive a strong response from hockey fans in the Permian Basin.”
