Amarillo, TX – Another shootout contest ended in favor of the Amarillo Bulls (14-15-4-3) as they beat the Odessa Jackalopes (22-13-2-2) with the final shooter for a 2-1 win. This was the last contest between these teams at the Amarillo Civic Center this season.
Amarillo scored the first goal of the night for the first time this weekend late in the first period. The fifth Russian brought in this year, Egor Kurbatov sees a loose puck inside the left circle as he winds up and fires one past Alex Camarre for the 1-0 lead.
Early in the second period, Lucas Andersson avoids a hit from Austin O’Rourke, and gets an accidental head contact call. After a weekend of trying to draw the Jacks into a fight, Josh DeLuca got what he wanted as Andersson dropped the gloves and pummeled him 12 straight times before ripping him down to the ice, while not even feeling the wind of a swipe.
The Andersson domination fired his team up, as the Jacks would tie the game four minutes later. Peyton Frantti one-touched a pass to Evan Somoza who broke in on the left wing before feeding one in front of the net for a Ricky Carballo tap-in through the five-hole of Jason Grande for the tie game 8:33 into the second period.
Not too much after, Camarre made a save, and with the puck skyrocketing into the air, Kurbatov gloved it and threw it in past the goal line. The officials initially called it a good goal, but after deliberating with his linesmen, they waved it off and we would remain tied at one.
No more goals were scored until we headed into a shootout for the second time this season with Amarillo. Neither team could net one until the final shooter on the Bulls beat Camarre through the five-hole for the game-winner.
Camarre turned back 31 shots on the night, while Jason Grande stood on his head, stonewalling 40 shots for the win.
Jackalopes return home next weekend when the host the Corpus Christi IceRays for the last time this season at the Ector County Coliseum. If you can’t make it out to the games, make sure to tune into Classic Rock 102.
