Jackalopes close home series with loss to Amarillo

ODESSA, TX — The Odessa Jackalopes fell to Amarillo Bulls 5-0 at the Ector County Coliseum on Sunday as the Jackalopes closed out not only the weekend series but also the season series between them and the Bulls.

Like Friday night, Amarillo got out to a hot start with sustained zone pressure before scoring on a quick rush up the ice to take a 1-0 lead in the first period.

The Bulls then scored again early in the second period while on the power play. It was the first, and only power-play goal that the Jackalopes surrendered all weekend. Amarillo added another goal from a short-angle shot from the base of the right circle while both teams were playing four-on-four.

With the score 3-0 the Jackalopes fought back in the late stages of the second period and in the third. They had several good chances, especially on the power play and a few odd-man rushes but they could not find the back of the net.

In the third period, the Bulls scored two more goals to close out the game and the season series with a 5-0 victory over the Jackalopes.

Despite the loss, the Jackalopes continued to show improvement, especially on the penalty kill as the Jackalopes only surrendered one goal to Amarillo’s top-ten power play unit.

The Jackalopes will regroup and look forward to another home series, this time against the Shreveport Mudbugs this coming Friday and Saturday.
