JACKALOPES ANNOUNCE DATES FOR 2015 TRYOUT CAMPS
Jacks to hold camps in Niagara Falls, NY in May; Denver, CO in June
ODESSA, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes, members of the North American Hockey League, are proud to announce the dates and locations of our tryout camps for the 2015-16 season. Beginning on Friday, May 29, the Jacks will field their first camp at Dwyer Arena, home of Niagara University (NCAA DI), in Niagara Falls, NY. The three-day camp will conclude on Sunday, May 31 with an all-star game. The Jacks second tryout camp will be held just five days later, Friday, June 5 in Denver, CO at Edge Ice Arena. This camp is also three days, concluding on Sunday, June 7, with an all-star game.
“In picking the spots for our camps, location was key,” said Jackalopes Head Coach Greg Gatto. “Obviously, with our first camp (in Niagara Falls) the players will be showcasing their talents directly in front of a Division I coaching staff at Niagara University. With our Colorado camp, there are three Division I programs (Colorado College, Air Force, and Denver University) within 60 miles of that location. We also took into consideration the accessibility of those cities. When we have camps, the goal is to get the players the maximum exposure. Not only will they be playing for their future with the Jackalopes, but they may be playing for their future down the road.”
The Jackalopes are currently ranked second in the NAHL with six Division I commits on their active roster. One of those Division I commits is Peoria, AZ native Derek Brown, who is heading to Niagara University in 2015-16. Brown’s career with the Jacks began at a tryout camp in Bloomfield Hills, MI back in 2013.
“I remember that camp, fondly” said Brown. “It was amazing to see all the coaches, scouts, and front office staff in the building. This is an organization that truly cares about its product, on and off the ice. Just two years later, I’m happy to say that I have a Division I commitment, and will be continuing my hockey career at Niagara University.”
