JACKS, ODESSA SHRINE CLUB TEAM UP FOR 4TH ANNUAL “SHRINER’S WEEKEND”
Specialty jerseys highlight fundraising effort for Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals.
ODESSA, TX – For the fourth consecutive season, the Odessa Jackalopes are partnering with the Odessa Shrine Club to help raise money for Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals through the 2013 rendition of “Shriner’s Weekend” at Ector County Coliseum, set for March 15th and 16th as the Jacks host their NAHL South Division rivals, the Topeka RoadRunners.
Throughout the weekend series vs. Topeka, Odessa players will wear specialty “Shriner’s” uniforms–jerseys that will be auctioned off to fans following Saturday’s game–with 100% of the auction profits going directly to Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals, the team announced at a press conference Tuesday at the Center Ice Club, inside Ector County Coliseum. In addition to Saturday’s jersey auction, the Jackalopes will also hold a weekend-long 50/50 raffle and silent auction on the Coliseum concourse, with the proceeds from those endeavors also going directly to Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals.
Over the course of the first three years of the Jackalopes-Shriners affiliation, “Shriner’s Weekends” have raised upwards of $78,000 combined dollars and through the sale of sponsorships and the proceeds from the aforementioned auctions and raffle, the Odessa Shrine Club estimates the 2013 “Shriner’s Weekend” haul to be upwards of $70,000 on its own.
In addition to the weekend-long festivities, the Shrine Club will also host a Maverick brisket, ribs and chili cook-off on Saturday afternoon in the west annex of Ector County Coliseum. Fans are invited to participate as volunteer judges or compete themselves for a mere $20 entry fee. Families are encouraged to bring the kids, as the famous Shriners “Tin Lizzies” will be out in full force throughout the afternoon festivities, leading up to a 7:05 pm faceoff on Saturday vs. the RoadRunners.
Currently 6-42-3 and with 15 total points, the Jackalopes remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL’s South Division standings and with just nine games remaining in the 2012-13 regular season and just five remaining home dates, the Jacks return to the ice Wednesday for a 7:05 pm tilt with the Wichita Falls Wildcats at Ector County Coliseum.
In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League.
