Jackalopes Acquire Regen Cavanagh from Janesville

Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes have acquired Regen Cavanagh from the Janesville Jets in exchange for assets. Cavanagh adds a much needed right-handed shot to the Jackalopes forwards.

“He’s a 200 foot player that can play in all situations,” said Jackalopes associate head coach Cody Campbell. “He can play both on the wing and in the middle, which is important for us down the stretch. He also has played a lot of junior hockey and has a ton for experience which should also help with our push down the stretch.”

Cavanagh, the native of Chesapeake, Virginia, began in the USPHL Elite with the Hampton Roads Whalers before moving up to Tier II hockey. Cavanagh played 51 total games with the Corpus Christi IceRays, racking up 28 points (12-17-29) two years ago. Last season, Regen played the whole year in the USHL, split between the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Sioux Falls Stampede where he accumulated 23 points (8-15-23) in 55 games.

Before the season began, Cavanagh, a 1997 birth year, committed to playing Division I hockey next season for Bentley University of the Atlantic Hockey Conference

Cavanagh began the year with the Central Illinois Flying Aces, but was sent to the Janesville Jets before play began. Regen played three games with the Jets in early October before getting injured. He has been sidelined since October 13th, but is expected back in March to help the Jackalopes down the stretch and into the playoffs.

In order to make room for Cavanagh, the Jackalopes have traded Lucas Herrmann to the Topeka RoadRunners for assets. Herrmann has accumulated 12 points (2-10-12) over 37 games with the Jackalopes this season.

“We thank Lucas for his contributions this season,” says Campbell. “The trade allows Lucas to go to a young team where he’s going to get a lot of playing time.”

The Jackalopes return to action on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17 when they head to Shreveport, Louisiana to take on the top-seeded Mudbugs. You can catch all the action as it unfolds on Classic Rock 102.
